MADE IN PUERTO RICO returns for February encore performances at Adventure Stage Chicago

Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC) and Mike Oquendo Events bring comedian Elizardi Castro’s cultural retrospective back to Chicago

CHICAGO–January 29, 2016 – After playing to sold-out holiday audiences, Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC) welcomes back Made in Puerto Rico for an encore run of performances February 5 – 7, 2016.

Comedian Elizardi Castro was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York.  Though he is in possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Master’s Degree in Communications, and is a licensed attorney in three states, he found his calling on the stage making people laugh.  Building his act around his Puerto Rican identity has allowed him to reach a wide audience across the nation.  He has performed for universities and national organizations like the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

Castro comes to ASC with high recommendations and awards for his work.  He is “an innovative performer who finds inspiration…to create stories of culture and identity…” according to the Northwest Indiana Times.  He creates “a funny and clever personal show experience.”  And the Orlando Sentinel described Castro as “funny, touching and infused with a true sense of self.”

“The show…offers the chance for the all audiences to laugh at themselves.  Made in Puerto Rico is the story about being Puerto Rican, but also about the universal struggle of being removed from and wanting to return to the native homeland.  For Elizardi Castro, the show is his chance to teach his son about being Puerto Rican and having Puerto Rico raised within and around him.”–Mike Oquendo, Made in Puerto Rico producer

To parallel the themes and ideas brought up by ASC’s previous show, New Kid, a play about immigration, identity, and family from a child’s perspective, Castro’s Made in Puerto Rico will allow audiences of all ages to start thinking about culture and identity in a different way.  With a significant amount of today’s news being about migration across the globe, Made in Puerto Rico will allow for open conversations.

This production is a collaboration between producer Mike Oquendo Events and ASC.
