The Stranger and the Shadow

January 18 – February 16, 2019
Co-presented with Rough House Theater

Wren is an outsider who enters a community guarded by a strange, dark barrier. Rejected for her differences, she is treated as an outcast in school and in the streets. Soon, she discovers the town's dark secret when she befriends Gio, one of her classmates, and a shadowy creature born of her own insecurities. But when those in power find out, the trio is hunted down. Will they be able to promote change in this dystopian society, or will they be imprisoned for their actions? The Stranger and the Shadow embodies the efforts of youth activists who combat intolerance with empathy and inclusion. Drawing inspiration from the Golem of Prague and written with help from Chicago youth, the play uses actors and life size puppets to bring to life this story. The Stranger and the Shadow is part of the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival.
